Worobec's Les Miseables Action Figure Toy Theater Actors
A story about David Worobec's magical Tophat Toy Theater Company.

This man is single-handedly reinventing a Victorian art form, from a living room in Portland, Maine's West End neighborhood. He's staged productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserables, South Pacific, Oklahoma, Sweeney Todd, "Little Shop of Horrors and Jekyll & Hyde. Worobec studied Opera at the Boston Conservatory and sings every single part of his toy theater productions. And makes the costumes and soundtrack. Unbelievable!

Maine Hockey Phenom Commits to NCAA Team - at Age 13

Oliver Wahlstrom is already a standout varsity hockey player at North Yarmouth Academy (Maine) - even though he's only 13. He recently became the youngest player ever to commit to an NCAA hockey team when he verbally agreed to play at the University of Maine. But it won't happen until 2019. Listen to my radio story here.

Changes on the Way for Lewiston-Auburn Bus Service

It was a tough six months for bus riders in the Twin Cities of Lewiston-Auburn. That's because the bus system Citylink  has faced ongoing maintenance, rust and corrosion problems with its fleet, causing headaches for passengers and city officials alike. In late October 2103, service was reduced so much that half the fleet was taken off the road, and bus routes that normally took one hour to complete took two hours while other routes were eliminated completely. But changes are on the way.

Listen to the story here.

Many of my audio projects have aired on WMPG 90.9 & 104.1 FM in Portland, Maine.

February 2013
New story called City Point in Time Survey. A lot more newsy than most of my work, but here it is.  It's about teams in Portland that conduct an annual Point In Time survey at each of the seven shelters within the City, as well as at a number of outdoor locations, to try and locate people living outdoors. The number of people experiencing homelessness has grown in recent years, according to City figures, making this year’s Point in Time Survey an especially significant effort. The City's shelters are operating at overcapacity, and many people don’t seek shelter at all, instead camping outdoors in the rough. Here's a bit of the story:

May 2012
Here's a new sound collage called The Invisible Neighborhood: The Making and Unmaking of Home I submitted to the Third Coast Short Doc Challenge 2012. It's about some of the folks living 'in the rough' near Thompson's Point, a peninsula in Portland that's about to get developed. This year's Short Doc Challenge was that stories had to 1. feature at least two neighbors 2. involve three seconds of narrative silence and 3. include a color in the title.

April 2012

Here is a new piece called Sound Graveyard about the City of Portland's very own sign maker, Ernie Colello. If you live or work in Portland, or have visited, chances are you've seen Mr. Colello's work around town. This piece is part of a larger project I am producing called the Portland SoundMap (in collaboration with photographer Cole Caswell) about the people, places, and sounds of the Portland peninsula. Listen to Sound Graveyard here!
